Born in Brasil, Debora Waldman will conduct the national orchestra Avignon-Provence in an exceptional concert featuring Lucija Garuta Meditation ; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23 ; and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5. Star pianist Shani Diluka will perform with her usual ‘winged virtuosity’ playing Mozart.
Appointed Music Director of the Orchestre National Avignon-Provence in September 2020, with a contract running until 2026, Debora Waldman is the first woman to lead a permanent national French orchestra. She has previously directed operas such as Aïda, Madame Butterfly, Don Giovanni, and more recently Idomeneo by Mozart, Stiffelio, Sérénade by French composer Sophie Gail, as well as The Magic Flute and productions of Tosca, La Traviata, and Zaïde.
Born in Monaco to Sri Lankan parents, Shani Diluka has achieved resounding success across five continents. Her two latest albums, dedicated to the music of Proust and minimalist compositions, have received exceptional praise from an unusually unanimous critical audience. Supported by Debora Waldman conducting the Avignon Orchestra, one of the finest symphonic ensembles in the Provence region, Shani Diluka will bring forth the supreme emotion of Mozart’s celebrated Piano Concerto No. 23, an absolute masterpiece of its kind.
