NOEMI Aerospace has secured 30 million Norwegian Kroner (3 million Euros) from Innovation Norway to support the flight testing of its electric amphibious aircraft, with the ambition of developing what could become the world’s first certified electric amphibious aircraft for commercial passenger transport.
The funding will support the flight test programme for NOEMI’s first aircraft, representing one of the most critical phases in the development of a new aircraft. The programme includes ground, water and flight testing, from initial system tests through to the first flight and the following flight test campaign. The results will document the aircraft’s performance and characteristics, providing the foundation for certification and future commercial operations.
At NOEMI’s development and test facility at Torp Sandefjord Airport, the company’s first full-scale test aircraft is currently under construction. Production of the wing is well underway, while motors, inverters and battery systems are already installed. The electric drivetrain test rig is expected to become operational from August.
NOEMI plans to roll out the test aircraft within the next 12 months and complete its first flight by the end of 2027.
The electric amphibious aircraft is designed to operate from both water and land, without requiring new infrastructure. The platform is intended for electric regional passenger transport, while also offering potential applications in cargo, medevac, search and rescue, military operations, firefighting and other critical missions.
The project brings together Norwegian and international expertise in aviation, advanced composite materials, electric propulsion systems and high-tech manufacturing. The ambition is to establish a new export industry based in Norway, addressing the growing international demand for zero-emission regional aviation.
