Jet Aviation is building a new 8,700-square-meter, wide-body hangar in Basel to replace the facility’s existing hangars 3 and 4. The new hangar 3 will add 4,550 square meters of hangar space and 2,000 square meters of shops and offices. It will also see the ramp extended by 5,000 square meters. Construction will begin in August 2017, with completion slated for Q4 2018. Jet Aviation is expanding its completions and refurbishment, modification and upgrades (RMU) capabilities in Basel with a new state-of-the-art 8,700-square-meter, wide-body hangar. Hangar 3 is intended to strengthen the company’s ability to meet rising demand for completions, maintenance and RMU services, particularly for wide-body aircraft. The new hangar will have capacity to hold a number of wide- and narrow-body aircraft simultaneously, and be suitable for wide-body projects up to Boeing 747.
Despite the large scale changes, disruption to both customers and employees is expected to be minimal. Jet Aviation has leased additional hangar and shop space to maintain capacity and capabilities throughout the process. Work has already begun on the tarmac extension to help facilitate aircraft movements around the build site. Once completed, the extended tarmac will enable larger aircraft to easily approach the new hangar.
“This significant investment in new infrastructure is a clear demonstration of Jet Aviation’s commitment to meeting customer needs around the world,” says Neil Boyle, senior vice president completions and general manager Basel site operations. “It will enable us to be more flexible in scheduling current and future workloads to satisfy the expectations of our clients.”
